Description
A few years ago I travelled around Thailand, to Nakhon Pathom, Udon Thani and Chiang Mai, to work with Bencharong masters. Every one of them was over 65. The people who can really paint this way are getting old, and I don't think the craft will be kept to the same standard once this generation is gone.
Lai Rot Nam and Lai Plaeo is a porcelain skull painted in Bencharong in 2022. Gold flowers cover the black ground, with red and green medallions at the temples and a praying figure at the crown. The eyes and teeth are finished in gold.
There is only one. It is signed on the base.

ABOUT ME (TREVOR FOSTER)
I'm Trevor Foster
I'm a sculptor and craftsman who's been working with ceramics for over a decade. My journey with clay started in Seattle, where I studied ceramics, but my connection to Thailand began much earlier as the child of antique dealers. After graduation, I returned to Thailand to establish my studio in the jungle, where every piece is still crafted today.
My Approach To Craftsmanship
I believe in making well-crafted pieces that people can actually connect with, not just art that sits on a white wall gathering dust. Behind every object tells a story since everything I do starts with a philosophical inquiry that I turn into an idea before it becomes an object that you can hold.
